$350 dollars from OUR hat donated to relief efforts

Red CrossThere's something wonderful about Calgary audiences! Our audience last night opened up their hearts and wallets and donated our biggest 'hat' ever -$350 - to the Canadian Red Cross for Hatian relief efforts.

Thanks to the government of Canada's generous donation-matching program, this donation will become a total of $700! Amazing for a completely unadvertised and spontaneous audience donation!

We're so proud of what our audience enabled us to do, and would like to offer a HUGE thanks to everyone that came out on the 29th! You're all amazing people

bullet  The Ugly Duckling Becomes a Swan

The Impro Depot wasn't always the charming theatre space it is now. In fact, it looked more like a refuge for everything broken and dirty in the world. However, there isn't much a team of dedicated improvisers can't do and in no time the place was cleaned up, painted, decorated and molded into the impressive Impro Depot you see today. Check out The Making of the Impro Depot!

bullet  2009 Calgary Improv Brier Wrapup

Improv BrierCalgary's first spring improv festival - The Calgary Improv Brier- was a smash hit! People from all over this fine city stopped in to see some of the finest improv in Western Canada.

With topics ranging from Russian zombies to wife-pleasing vacuum cleaners, there wasn't a moment of dullness to be found. We had musical numbers, mimed skits, audience members up on stage, rap battles, inter-team storylines, scenes run by the lighting & sound booth and so much more!

In the final on March 14, the two out-of-town sensations - Regina's General Fools and Edmonton's RapidFire - faced off in a winner takes all battle for the Brier trophy. In a bizzare turn of events, the two teams cooperated together for most of the show evoking cries of, "Tie! Tie! Tie!" from the sold-out crowd. However, in all competition there must be a winner and after two-minutes of impromptu overtime RapidFire narrowly edged out the team from Saskatchewan. Congratulations RapidFire! We'll see you at the fall festival!

bullet  Sunday Drop in Classes Resumes this Fall

Classes resume this fall

Want to learn the ropes of improv? The barebones building blocks of an artform? The rules that govern all human life? If you answered 'yes' to any of those questions, we highly recommend you pay a visit to Rick Hilton's drop-in improv course this winter!

These 12pm-2pm Sunday afternoon classes encourage newcomers and journeymen alike to experience the joys of improv. Taking place in our own Impro Depot theatre, these classes will cover everything from the basics of saying "yes" to complex status games and character building. In a bit of insanity that can only be attributed to a former student of Keith Johnstone, Rick is offering these courses for only $5 each! That's $2.50 per hour of improv instruction. Holy Red Cartoon Beaver, that's cheap!

Rick's been in the improv game for over 30 years now and I can guarantee the man knows his stuff. And when it all comes down to it, what more do you really need than the guarantee of an anonymous web maintenance guy? So start going to Church early, or blow it off entirely, and get down to the Impro Depot every Sunday for a great time!

bullet  Drive, walk, run or take the LRT to the Impro Depot!

The Improv Guild is proud to announce Underground Improv every Friday night! We are located at 2405 Macleod Trail S.W. (the old recycle depot) directly accross the street from the Erlton/Stampede LRT station. Improv begins at 8pm!

We are now recession-proof with pay-what-you-can pricing! Seating is limited (especially the couches up front) so arrive early!
